4 Features You Need To Add When Renovating A Trailer For Grooming

by Clara Nichols

These days, more and more, dog groomers are coming to people's homes rather than having customers come to them. If you have been thinking of switching over to this business model, then you will need a trailer to bring your grooming supplies with you to customers' homes. You could buy an already-outfitted one, but they're tough to find since this is such a niche market. You're better off buying an empty trailer and converting it to a grooming trailer. Here are four key features you will need to add.

1. A Sink

Most grooming trailers actually have two sinks. They have the main sink that you would use to wash small dogs, which is really more of a sunken platform with a drain and a spray gun. They also have the sink you can use to wash your own hands between clients. You'll need to fit these sinks to a water tank. It's nice to also have the option to hook the sinks up to an external plumbing source, like a garden hose, so you do not have to use your own water at every stop. Many grooming trailers are set up with both sinks next to each other on one wall so they can share the plumbing.

2. A Non-Slip Floor

The plain metal floor you find in most trailers will get slippery when wet, so you will need a non-slip surface of some sort to put down on top of it. The easiest option is probably non-slip, interlocking floor tiles. You do not have to glue them down or anything. You just hook them together, and they form a floating floor that you can remove and clean under from time to time.

3. Locking Cabinets

You do not want to have to worry about anyone stealing your grooming tools while you run up to ring a customer's doorbell or the like. So you will need a few cabinets that lock. Often, trailer makers put these on the wall opposite the sinks. You can easily turn around, grab what you need, and then turn back to the dog who is waiting to be groomed.

4. A Grooming Counter

Finally, you need a counter where you can stand your dog to be groomed. The counter should have a place where you can hook a dog's harness if needed. A simple bungee mounted to the wall will do. Just make sure the counter is at a height where you're comfortable working.

Once you fit a trailer with the key components above, you will have a mobile grooming trailer
